SCBWI NATIONAL AWARDS AND GRANTS

Each year, SCBWI offers several awards and grants to its members to promote and honor excellence in children's writing.

• SCBWI Golden Kite Award. Four Golden Kite Awards are presented to SCBWI members for their outstanding work in fiction, non-fiction, picture book text, and picture-illustration. Honor Book plaques are also awarded in each category.

• SCBWI Magazine Merit Award. Four plaques are awarded each year to SCBWI members for excellence in original magazine work. The categories are: fiction, non-fiction, illustration and poetry.

• SCBWI Grants
  SCBWI has several grant programs to provide assistance and support for promising new authors. Visit the SCBWI Web Site for more information.

Calendar of Annual Writing Competitions

• Lorin Tarr Gill Writing Competition (Hawaii)
  Genres: fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Cash awards. Deadline: March of each year. Information at www.nlapwhonolulu.org.
• Delacorte First Young Adult Novel (national)
  Deadline: December 31 each year. Prize: contract and advance. For details, see www.randomhouse.com/kids/writingcontest.
• Writer’s Digest Annual Writing Competition (national)
  Genres: varied, including children’s/young adult fictionGrand prize: $3,000 cash and a trip to New York City to meet with editors or agents.

  Deadline:  May 14, 2010

  Entry fee(s), which increase on submissions entered after May 14. Information at www.writersdigest.com.
